Insider’s tip

The ideal location for a multifaceted holiday

The quiet and idyllic town of Tieschen is located in the middle of Thermenland Styria, only a few kilometres from the Slovenian border. In the green centre with the distinctive statue of St. Francis you will find the vicarage right next to the church. Surrounded by fields, forests and vineyards, this is the ideal base for activities such as bicycling and hiking. But anyone who would ever like to go into hiding in the truest sense of the word will also get the opportunity to do so here.

Surrounded by volcanoes

The hills in the region such as the Gleichenberger Kogel or Königsberg, on whose foot Tieschen is located, are the visible remnants of former volcanoes. This energy-rich region is also called “Region of Vitality”. So it is the ideal location to draw strength and to return to everyday life again with newly acquired energy.

Tieschen is located in the middle of the “Southeast Styrian Wine & Thermenland” at the foot of the Königsberg. The favourable climate and good location are optimal prerequisites for excellent wines. You can learn more about the different cultures of wine-growing facilities during a gentle hike through the vineyards.
Many events invite visitors to relax and get to know community residents better. In the Southeast Styria region there are wine taverns open year-round which have been preserving and continuing culinary tradition for 230 years.

Tieschen not only presents itself to the guest with the highest statue of St. Francis with the wolf, a sculpture by Fernando Crespo which forms the starting point of the“Sonnengesangsweg” (“Canticle of the Sun” Trail) inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, but enchants visitors in an original manner with typical regional village life, special offers and lived customs.
